About the League: Myra Copeland, Our Co-Founder
Saline Animal League has been overseeing animal welfare in Marshall, MO for almost 30 years, since our founding in 1997, with gratitude to our co-founder, Ms. Myra Copeland, Rest in Paws. We are run solely on donations and by the grace of volunteers, in our location at our Red House Rescue. Our primary goal is to keep our Red House Rescue running smoothly, so we can continue to care for, and find loving homes for all animals that come through our door.
To maintain our status as a no-kill shelter, it takes dedication; dedication from our Red House Rescue Staff, Volunteers, and Community who help us network our animals so they find their fur-ever homes, and raise funds so we can continue to keep our animals healthy. We are especially grateful to our neighbors in our Clay St. neighborhood for their profound patience and support as we set up our new look to the future at Red House Rescue!

Saline Animal League is privileged to have a dedicated network of volunteers (there’s room for many more) to assist with the intricate needs of running our Red House Rescue, but it takes leadership, daily commitment, and consistency to see to the welfare of the animals in our care. We are grateful to have Danita Phillips, Manager, and Cheyenne Friesz, Assistant Manager, to oversee those needs and continue to find ways to make our Red House Rescue a vibrant, welcoming, and proactive place in our community. Our Pack Consists of 100% Volunteers
We NEED YOU! Yes, you! No volunteer assistance is too small, as we need them all. With our transition to our Red House Rescue, our volunteer needs are even greater. Here is just the short list: dog walkers, cat box changers, CLEANERS (dog, cat, general) of every kind for our facility, laundry helpers, organizers, runners. You can’t go wrong if you’d like to volunteer with us, and we are so grateful.
Danita Phillips, Red House Rescue Manager
I became connected with humane animal welfare in Marshall when I saw an ad in the newspaper, looking for volunteers to join SAL. I joined back in 2007, going to pet adoption events and fostering. I have remained in a leadership role with the League ever since, and now oversee the daily operations of our Red House Rescue.
Cheyenne Friesz, Assistant Manager
I remember when I came to Marshall for my college visit in 2013, and I made my mom drive me to the local animal shelter to ask about volunteering opportunities. I was so excited to go to school here because I grew up in a really small town without an active animal welfare presence. I started work study in the existing shelter here in 2014, helping with cleaning and going to adoption events. In 2018 I completed my internship there and started the Spayghetti and No Balls Dinner fundraiser to benefit the spaying and neutering of the shelter pets. It’s become a wildly popular event and such a great fundraiser for an all-important cause to our mission. Since 2018 I have been the Fundraising Coordinator for Saline Animal League, and am the assistant manager for our Red House Rescue. I am very happy to continue my journey with this organization and work alongside our amazing members!
